Re-modeling your old Sled into a Powder Weapon Update | FreeRider Projects
So the snow has finally come, covering the ground like a blanket, and making the world around us an open world to explore. In December of 2016 we took the re-modeled MXZ that we built and modified into a powder machine, basically a summit. We were so excited to test it out, after a few pulls to get it going, and a good warm-up, we were off to the nearest boondocking location we could find. Keep in mind Ontario does offer many boondocking spots, you just gotta know where to go. We took the OFSC trail to our boondocking location, and it handled itself on the trail really well, but thats not we were testing it for. Once we reached the open hills covered in fresh powder, we got the cameras rolling, and couldn't wait to try it out.
Just like any older model sled, the first thing you worry-about is when and where you're going to get stuck next! With this new set-up, the only thing you were thinking is how do I get this thing stuck? Ok, so it isn't necessarily comparable to new generation sleds like SKI DOO Summit, or Arctic Cat Mountain Cat, but it could definitely keep up. So I guess what you may be thinking is, is it worth the extra money, or should you just buy something brand new instead? These are easy questions to answer. First off, if you have the money to buy something new, DO IT, you won't regret it. If you have an old sled, or are able to pick one up for a cheap price, and it runs like a top dog, then put the extra little bit of money into it and it'll make a huge difference! At the end of the day people make the same silly mistakes on toys, they think the bigger engine, the more high performance part in your engine, the faster and better toy you'll have. Our opinion, the only thing you should ever consider to add to your engine is maybe an aftermarket pipe to make it louder if you're into that kinda stuff. Other than that, waste of money. If you're putting money into a sled, the best thing you can do is buy a more aggressive track and new carbides, and we promise you'll notice the difference, it's night and day.
